Here you will find a selection of belts for powerlifting, weightlifting, strongman, strongwoman, or general fitness. Many of these belts are approved by the International Powerlifting Federation. You can choose from a wide variety of lifting belts, such as the SBD Belt. A thick, secure, and tight powerlifting belt, the SBD belt features a patented quick-release lever that allows you to rapidly tighten or loosen the belt when engaging it.
We also have a few other powerlifting belts featuring other buckle options from brands such as Wahlanders and Inzer Advance Designs. However, the lever powerlifting belts from Inzer Advance Designs and the SBD Apparel are much more popular thanks to their individually patented buckles that allow for a very tight fit with minimal effort.
We also carry a Rehband Back Support that is popular among strongmen and strongwomen. Many strongmen and strongwomen wear this neoprene belt under a thicker standard lifting belt.
A lifting belt is designed to help you brace better and create optimal intra-abdominal pressure while lifting weights. This will help protect you from injury as well as improve performance.
A lifting belt is worn around the mid section, normally at belly button height. It should be worn quite tight, but not so tight as to make it hard to breath into your mid section and brace against the belt.
You should start by measuring your waist around your belly button in a relaxed state. Do not rely on your pant measurement for a belt sizing as this can be drastically different. Compare that measurement to the sizing chart on each product page to find the right size for you. If you are on the border between two sizes then we recommend using future plans for bodyweight to help make the decision, if you are planning to gain size then go to the larger size and vice versa if you are planning to drop weight.
For most lifters we recommend going with a 10mm belt. It will more quickly break in and conform to your body, making it more comfortable to wear. 10mm thick leather will not stretch so it's not going to provide less support in that direction. The side walls will, ever so slightly, flex vertically more than a 13mm belt. This can make the 10mm more comfortable, especially for deadlifting, however it can also make the 13mm feel more supportive. If you aren't sure, go with the 10mm.
A lifting belt when worn tightly will help you to increase the intra-abdominal pressure you can generate, thus helping you have a more stable core when lifting weights. This will help reduce risk of injury and also increase the weight you can lift.
We recommend starting with the belt around your belly button. It's a good starting point and over time you might find you prefer to wear it a bit lower or a bit higher. You may even prefer a different placement on one lift or another, personally I wear my belt higher on sumo deadlifts and lower on squats. The answer as to how tight you might want to wear it is harder, it should be tight, but not so tight as to make it hard to breath into your stomach and brace against it.
