Often I lay awake thinking on the nature of being perceived. It's terrifying really, to know that the person you are to others is a variation of what you are to yourself. But which then is the true self? That which you know or that which all others perceive? In a way our identity is the sum of the things we present to those around us, and it is not real until it is perceived by others. So what is my identity, what will people think when they gaze upon my car bearing this sticker? Will they understand the true and deep significance of it? Will they recognize me for who I am? I can only wonder and hope, hope that somewhere a passerby sees this sticker on my car as our lives briefly intersect, and is struck with the realization of who I am: someone who needed 5$ more to qualify for free shipping on my lever belt.
